Pre-Calculus
Pre-Calculus is the melting pot of our mathematics curriculum. We study a wide variety of mathematical concepts including Advanced Algebra, Analytical Geometry, Discrete Mathematics, Statistics & Probability. Here is a list of specific topics covered: Linear & Quadratic Functions, Polynomial Functions, Inequalities, Functions, Exponents & Logarithms, Analytic Geometry, Sequences & Series, Matrices, Combinatorics, Probability, and Statistics. The textbook that we use is Advanced Mathematics published by McDougal Littell, 2000.
This is a college preparatory class, recommended to all students planning on entering a university setting after high school. Daily assignments are collected the day of the chapter test, worth 15 points. Two quizzes are normally given per chapter worth 15-25 points. At the end of the chapter a test is given worth 100 points. Cumulative review worksheets are given after each test and are worth 20 points. The students also complete a statistical project toward the end of the school year worth 100 points. Tests and quizzes normally make up 70-75% of their grade with the remaining part coming from homework and worksheets. At the end of the first semester, all students take a semester test that is worth 20% of their first semester grade. At the end of the year all students take a cumulative final that is worth 100 points, or the same as a chapter test.
