Algebra I

Algebra I is the study of converting scientific data into mathematical problems.  Here students start working variables that represent unknowns.  The course of study in Algebra I is:  Equations, Inequalities, Functions, Linear Functions, Systems of Equations, Polynomials, Factoring Polynomials, Quadratic Functions & Equations, Exponential Functions, and Data Analysis & Probability.

Homework assignments are each work 5 points, and due two days after being assigned.  An example is if assigned on Tuesday, it is due on Thursday.  The reason for this is that students get one day to ask questions in class before it is due.  I try to give about two quizzes per chapter worth 15-25 points.  At the end of a chapter, a test is given worth 100 points.  After a chapter test, students are assigned a cumulative review worksheet to complete in class.  The purpose of these worksheets is to review what they have learned in previous chapters.  When a quarter is all done, daily work makes up about 50% of their grade, quizzes and tests the other 50%.  A semester test is mandatory for all students to take at the end of the first semester that is worth 20% of their semester grade.  At the end of the year, a cumulative final is given to all students that is worth 100 points, the same as a chapter test..
